Welcome to Egglamania!

If you are crazy about eggcups Egglamania is the Web Site for you.

The earliest known egg cups were found amongst the ruins of Pompeii, dating from around 79 A.D. Whilst at Amherst Antiques we cannot claim to stock egg cups of such antiquity, we do have an extensive range of porcelain and pottery egg cups and egg hoops, built up over several years.

Mainly English in origin, our porcelain and pottery egg cups and egg hoops are all in perfect, un-restored condition and we have many examples, mostly dating between 1800 and 1920.

On the following pages you will find some general information on porcelain and pottery egg cups and a selection from our current stock, which is divided by date: Eggcups pre1890 and Eggcups post 1890.

We usually have examples in stock of porcelain and pottery egg cups from most major factories such as Coalport, Minton, Spode, Wedgwood and Worcester. Many of our egg cups carry a maker’s mark, or can be attributed to a particular factory from the shape, design or pattern number. However, a significant number of porcelain and pottery egg cups were unmarked and sometimes it is only possible to give an area of origin (e.g. Staffordshire).

We exhibit our pottery and porcelain egg cups in the UK at the Antiques for Everyone Fairs at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham and at the summer Fine Art & Antiques Fair, Olympia, London, where we meet a growing band of eggcup collectors or pocillovists, as they are sometimes called. Usually we have around one hundred egg cups on display and hope to provide a good choice for the discerning collector.

If we do not have the egg cup you are looking for, we will be most happy to look for you.

We are members of LAPADA, the Association of Art & Antique Dealers and are committed to the Association’s strict Code of Practice.

All measurements given on this web site are approximate and refer to the height of the eggcups.
